Volunteer Fee Q&A

Q- Why do I have to volunteer?
A- The Aurora Soccer Club is a non-profit volunteer based organization. Without volunteers your child would not be able to play soccer.

Q- What if I don’t have time to volunteer?
A- Although we would prefer if everyone volunteered you have the option to pay a $100.00 volunteer fee at registration. If you pay the fee at registration you will not have to volunteer.

Q- Do I have to pay $100.00 per child?
A- No. This is a per family fee, not per child.

Q- What will Aurora do with the $100.00?
A- The money will go towards hiring individuals to do the work not being done by volunteers.

Q- Why do I have to leave a post-dated cheque if I am willing to volunteer?
A- The post-dated cheque will act as a “volunteer bond” against your volunteer commitment. If at the end of the season you do not fulfill your volunteer commitment your cheque will be cashed.

Q- How much time do I have to volunteer?
A- Approximately 4-6 hours of volunteer time is required. This may seem like a lot but we have a few volunteers that put in hundreds of hours of volunteer time. 4-6 hours is not much to ask when you consider the time already put in by a small group of individuals.

Q- What would I have to do to fulfill my volunteer commitment?
A- There will be opportunities throughout the season to volunteer. Examples are board member, coach or assistant coach, manager, evaluator, help with equipment packing, volunteering at the Harder Avalon Classic, committee member.

Q- How do I sign up to volunteer for these tasks?
A- You will be contacted throughout the season with volunteer tasks to be filled. If you are interested in being a board member, committee member, or coach please contact an Aurora Board member.

Q- Why do we host the Harder Avalon Classic tournament?
A- The Harder Avalon Classic is the clubs only fundraiser. The funds earned from this tournament help keep the cost of your fees down.

Q- How much money does the tournament bring in?
A- The tournament brings in approximately $25,000.00.

Q- Why can`t we do other fundraisers?
A- If you are interested in organizing other fundraising opportunities please contact Erin Edwards. e.edwards@sasktel.net

Q- What would I have to do if I volunteer at the tournament?
A- There are a few different roles that can be filled. Field marshal-sitting at the soccer field making sure coaches fill out game sheets, phoning in scores to tournament headquarters, etc. Usually this can be worked around your childs soccer games at the tournament so you will be at the field anyways. Working at tournament headquarters- answering phones, recording scores phoned in by field marshal`s, etc. Field captain- you would be responsible for setting up nets at your assigned field, being available for any problems that may arise at your field, etc.

Q- How many volunteer hours go into the tournament?
A- The tournament committee puts in hundreds of hours before the tournament even starts. During the tournament approximately 1,000 hours of volunteer time are required to run the tournament.
